Program Officer
ABOUT CLEAN ECONOMY FUND
Clean Economy Fund is a public foundation with the mission to rally more philanthropy for bold initiatives that support giant leaps toward a prosperous, net-zero emissions economy in Canada. Our goal is simple: to triple the amount of climate philanthropy in Canada – from $100 million to more than $300 million annually, by 2030 – and to help that philanthropy achieve maximum impact.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Clean Economy Fund is seeking an energetic team member who will help grow our philanthropic impact in Canada’s climate change space. The successful candidate will support the foundation’s grant-making and operations by carrying out due diligence on high-impact projects, administering grant agreements, and tracking our progress. The candidate will also work with Clean Economy Fund’s donors and funding partners to provide convening opportunities and to deploy funds.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
1. Managing donor accounts and engagement
- Drafting and submitting grant proposals to existing funding partners and prospective donors and managing all subsequent reporting requirements
- Tracking incoming and outgoing grants in coordination with CEF’s bookkeeper and accountant
- Sending project updates and communicating impact to funders
- Aiding in the design and delivery of learning opportunities for CEF’s funder network, including webinars, discussions and in-person events
- Overseeing filing of CEF’s grant documentation, including confirmation letters and reporting templates, to ensure CEF is abiding by Canada Revenue Agency guidelines
2. Supporting CEF’s grant-making
- Identifying potential recipients and conducting due diligence on potential grant recipients in coordination with the Chief Impact Officer
- Drafting, coordinating and monitoring grant agreements
- Managing fund transfer schedules and overseeing the transfer of funds to grant recipients, in coordination with CEF’s bookkeeper and accountant
- Assisting with the project management for CEF’s in-house initiatives, including coordinating project partners and tracking budgets
- Monitoring projects being funded by CEF and liaising with grant recipients to ensure projects are meeting their objectives
- Tracking impact and assisting with the development of storytelling to communicate impact
3. Providing general and financial administrative support
- Tracking CEF and project revenues and expenses to ensure effective budget leadership, while following and upholding all official CEF policies
- Reviewing financial statements, in coordination with the Bookkeeper, to ensure accurate accounting and financial reporting
- Preparing active grant reports and financial statements for the Board of Directors on a quarterly basis
- Quarterbacking CEF’s annual audit of financial statements
- Supporting major in-house initiatives, like the New Economy Canada initiative, and liaising with initiative partners to ensure successful project management and delivery
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE IS
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- A whiz on Microsoft Excel and google sheets
- Practiced in basic accounting principles
- A gifted communicator in English, French is an asset
- Passionate about solving climate change
- Experienced in the philanthropic, charity or non-profit sectors administration
- A people person
- A team player who is self-driven and works well independently
- Ready to travel for short assignments (up to 4 days per month)
- Based in or near Ottawa, Toronto or Montreal (combination of remote work and office)
EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in relevant field or equivalent training
- 3+ years of relevant work experience
REPORTING
This role reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must be based in Canada. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
SALARY
This position has a salary range of $65,000-$80,000 per annum, and includes paid vacation and a comprehensive benefits package.
TERM
This is a permanent, full-time position.
