BACKGROUND:

Clean Economy Fund is a public foundation and registered charity with the mission to rally more philanthropy for high-impact initiatives that support giant leaps toward a prosperous, net-zero emissions economy in Canada.

Clean Economy Fund carries out its mission by facilitating climate philanthropy in three ways:

  • Research & Advice: We provide access to independent expertise, timely research studies, landscape analyses and insider updates to help inform climate philanthropy
  • Collaboration & Convening: We offer convening opportunities, including an annual retreat, in-person workshops and webinar discussions, as well as collaborative funding initiatives to help strengthen climate philanthropy
  • Fund Solutions: We provide a variety of tax-receiptable funding vehicles, including pooled funds and donor advised funds, to help deploy climate philanthropy


Clean Economy Fund is governed by a volunteer (unpaid) board of directors.

The CEF Board of Directors meets four times per year, with meetings typically running two hours in duration and being held virtually. The Board also meets once per year for a one-day in-person board retreat. Board members are also encouraged to attend the annual two-day CEF Funders Retreat.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

Clean Economy Fund’s Board of Directors is seeking to fill 1-2 vacancies.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Vision and Mission: The Board ensures that CEF’s charitable purposes, vision, mission, and principles are aligned.
  • Governance and Strategic Planning: The Board is responsible for advising and, as relevant, approving strategic directions and goals and setting organizational policies to carry out CEF’s mission. It oversees governance practices, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and ethical standards.
  • Financial Oversight: The Board reviews and approves the annual budget, monitors financial performance, and ensures responsible financial management.
  • Executive Oversight: The Board is responsible for the hiring, evaluation and compensation of the Chief Executive Officer.

  • From a private funding organization
  • Insights, credibility and residence in western Canada
  • Business acumen
  • Able to contribute an informed perspective on how culture and identity interact with Canada’s transition to a prosperous, net-zero emissions economy
